Local Fishing: Bass fishing is really picking up along with Crappie Fishing.  Both Smallmouth and Largemouth are being caught throughout the entire lake.  Focus on deeper water for the Smallies and sloughs for the Largemouth.  Smallmouth are hitting deep diving rattlin rapala’s and other deep diving crankbaits.

Local Creeks are blown out and full of Skidders, Dump Trucks, Bull Dozers, Ash, Wheel Bearing Grease, and Deisel.  Good Luck

Local Fishing:  It is time to start fishing some of the other creeks that are open.  Focus on Pack River and Grouse Creek right now.  The water jumped up over the weekend so more fish should be moving into these systems.  Beads and Glo Bugs are still a fly fishermens best bet.  The Clark Fork is still fishing very well.  Beads are working, unless you want to get down and dirty w/eggs, more fish are also being caught on swung flies.  Black/Purple is out producing all others right now….Biggest to hand this season on fly is around 19lbs (36.5″) a real toad.

Lake Pend Oreille kicked my ass yesterday….went searching for Bass and Crappie and it seemed like everyone and the sister was out enjoying the warm weather.  Bass were tough, however, the Crappie fishing wasn’t bad.  2-weight fly rods with small clousers can be a kick in the pants right now.  Enough about the little fish.. Go out and catch a Big Kam!

Local Fishing:  The local creeks are beginning to swell a little bit making fishing even better.  Fish are beginning to spread out throughout the lower systems.  Fly fishermen are doing well on beads/glo bugs as well as large heavily weighted streamers.  As for gear fishermen, just about anything works.

Lake Pend Oreille is beginning to warm up.  The K&K derby is on right now, so good luck competing w/all the fishermen.  Bass fishing is beginning to pick up in the sloughs and the water temps are around 50-55 degrees in the sloughs and 40-42 ot on the main lake.  Target Largemouth with slow presentations either Yamamto Senko’s or Zoom Black Lizards are the best bet right now for largies.

Lower Clark Fork: The Lower CF is still fishing very good.  With the spring K&K Derby happening this week most people will be fishing out on the lake making the river almost empty.  The creeks are starting to bump up meaning the rainbows will start running up the smaller tribs to spawn.  Fishing Beads or large weighted streamers is working best.  Black, Purple, Pink, and Olive are the main keys to focus on when fly fishing.  As for gear fishemen….cured steelhead/salmon eggs are working the best followed close behind by trolling rapalas.

Middle Earth Clark Fork:  Pike fishing is picking up around Heron, MT and Trout Creek, MT.  Tom went over today to fish so we will have an updated report soon.

Pack, Grouse, Lightning:  These are the only creeks currently open that flow into LPO.  They fish very well once the water rises and begins to fall.  Fish are being caught on a regular basis in Pack River.  Grouse Creek and Lighting are also starting to see some fish moving is as conditions change.  For the fly fishermen….Large Streamers and Beads work the best.  For the Gear Guy….Cured Salmon eggs or Nightcrawlers.

Good Luck.  If anyone has a big fish to report shoot us an email cal@sandpointoutfitters.com

It is a good thing IDFG wants to kill all the big rainbows in Lake Pend Oreille they are just too damn strong and fight to hard.  Why would we want any fish like that around to catch????  This might be your last chance to get out there and catch some rainbows in the lower Clark Fork before they are all gone.  The blood bath continues as the kill em all mentality rules the minds of the locals.  Fishing has been very good….meaning a lot of fish are dying.

Local Fishing:

It is on like Donkey Kong around here right now.  All of the creeks have swelled and are now on the drop.  If you are going to target big fish in small water…NOW is the time to go.  The lower Clark Fork has been putting up around a dozen fish a morning now.  The biggest so far is 27 lbs.   That was a big fish.   Fly anglers are catching a few fish, gear fishermen are doing most of the damage.  Remeber, even if IDFG gives our $15 a rainbow head, we still need to conserve our fishery.  Don’t buy into there b.s.  and that is not Bachelor of Sciences.

Lake Pend Oreille’s surface temp is up and Bass fishing has been fantastic.  A largemouth over 10 lbs was caught yesterday…potentially breaking the state record….too bad the dude ate it and didn’t weigh it in.  Too bad….  Lake Trolling has been good with what few fish a left being caught.

Coeur d’Alene River:  Fish are hitting dries during the heat of the day.  Focus on fishing larger attractor patters w/nymph droppers.  There are a lot of gear fishermen on the lower river right now so try and head up higher where there will be less pressure.

SPRING IS HERE!!!!

Just got back from fishing the Bitterroot River over in Montana.  Fishing was fantastic! lots of Skwala’s and lots of fish looking up.  I highly recommend heading over there A.S.A.P. to do some fishing.

Clark Fork River:

Just downstream from Missoula the CF is not fishing very well due to the dam breaching.  Once below Superior the fishing begins to pick back up.  There are lots of bugs on the water and fish are beginning to focus on dries.  There are lots of Skwala’s, March Browns, and BWO’s on the water.  Further Downstream the  CF is fishing well for Pike,  just outside of Trout Creek, MT Pike fishing is picking up.  You can regularly catch fishing on large streamers if you fly fishing.  For the gear fishermen suspending jerk baits and spinner baits have been catching lots of pike.  The lower river is producing the Lake Pend Oreille Giants right NOW!!!  Many fish in the mid teens are being caught every day.  Obviosly drifting eggs is the preferred method, however, you can now get them on fly.  Trying swinging the big Sh*t or nymphing beads near the mouth of Lightning Creek.

Local Fishing:

The creeks are now going off.  Fishing has been better than consistent for Large LPO Rainbow Trout.  Pack River is on the rise and fish from 6-12 lbs are being caught daily.  Grouse Creek has produced three fish over 20 lbs in the last two days.  Get out there now before they completely blow out.

Lake Pend Oreille:

LPO is on the rise, Bass are starting to be taken in the back sloughs.  The Surface temp on the main lake is around 40 degrees.  Once the temp gets up to about 45-50 fishing will improve drastically.  Crappie and Perch are beginning to show themselves in the back sloughs and various creek mouths throughout the drainage.

On a lighter Note:

Yesterday Panhandle landed 15 fish over 22″ drifing eggs and flossing.  His biggest was 26.5″

 Good Luck Beating that!!

Stop SNOWING!!!!!

Lake Pend Oreille:

Fishing has been consistent for Rainbows and Macks on LPO.  For best fishing focus on the mouth of the Clark Fork River and Pack River.  There are a lot of fish moving into the CF now with spring flows beginning to pick up.  Trolling Rapalas, Apex’s and Flies has been catching fish.   Try fishing about 10-20ft down with Rapalas for best results.

Clark Fork River:

Lower River:  The Lower river below Cabinet Gorge dam has been producing some great fish.  Don’t expect to hammer lots of fish…just good quality fish.  It is more like Steelhead fishing than anything else could compare.  Fish in the Teens are being caught every day with several smaller rainbows and browns.  Drifting eggs, Back plugging hot shots/rapalas, and nymphing beads have all been producing nice fish.

Kootenai River:

Today is the last day that the river is open right below Libby dam.  Fishing has been outstanding.  Lots of very BIG Bull Trout have been caught and released over the last two weeks.  Swinging flies on tips seems to produce the biggest fish…..don’t hesitate to fish a BIG white streamer on the top…dead drifting….for some massive topwater takes.

Clark Fork:

The lower river has been putting out some very big fish.  We have seen fish over 16lbs in the last week being caught below the bridge just outside of Clark Fork.  Drifting eggs and plugging has been producing the biggest fish.  Just across the border in MT, the Pike fishing has been good.  The ice is gone and those fish are moving into the shallows and warming themselves during the heat of the day.  Stick Baits, Zooms, and Spinnerbaits are working best.   As for fly fishing…it is very tough right now to get these big fish on flies.  The upper river around superior and above has been fishing very well….get out there before they remove that dam on Friday!!  BWO, Skwalas, March Browns are all showing themselves on top.

Kootenai River:

The Koot has been spitting out some huge fish below Libby dam.  There are several fish over 15lbs being caught daily.  A mixed bag of Bull Trout and Rainbows should be expected.  The upper part of the river closes April 1.  So get out there asap to catch some of these huge fish.

Lake Pend Oreille:

LPO has been fishing very well for both Rainbows and Macks right now!!  Fishing around the mouth of the Clark Fork and Pack River has been producing some very nice fish.  Trolling Rapala’s just below the surface seems to have good results.  For you best chance at a large Mack…fish Megabait Jigs over off of the Monarchs.  Glow, Chartreuse, and Perch color are the most effective.

Coeur d’Alene River:

The CDA has been fishing AWESOME!!! The fish are beginning to look up and they are hungry.  Big bushy dries with a 20″ dropper have been producing the most fish, but you can just fish a single dry and catch fish.  Look for some small stones and mayflys to begin showing there face over the next week.
