Local Fishing on Lake Pend Oreille has been stellar the last week for Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass. The surface temp in the main lake is around 51-55 degress making it ideal for Smallies. The sloughs are putting out some huge largemouth (7.5 lbs yesterday) with water temps into the 60′s Fishing crankbaits and jerkbaits have been putting lots of smallies on the board. For the Largemouth fish Yamamoto Senko’s black Lizards and even buzzbaits in the morning. Favorite colors for the largies are Black, Pumpkin, and Watermelon. As for the smallies any color crankbait will work right now, they are in major feed mode. Fly Fishing for Largies has been outstanding, use large black articulated streamers.
Fly Fishing the local creeks and rivers is still out of the question. The only thing that has been fishing well, is the Thompson River in MT. These fish are eating Salmon Flies right now when the water is in decent shape. Over the last three days the water has been dropping and it is definitely worth the ride over to catch some of these awesome fish. It takes about 1 hour from Sandpoint, ID to get there. Local fishing for largemouth has be stellar on a fly rod and is a very fun thing to do this time of year.
Good Luck
Local Fishing: The creeks are still holding on, however, with 80 degrees by Friday, they will be completely blown. Lake Pend Oreille has been fishing very good for Bass, Crappie, Perch, and smaller Mackinaw. The Lake Temp is up around 48 degress. It should warm up over the weekend. It is time for Spring Run-Off so focus on Lakes and Tailwaters right now. Good Luck

Local Fishing: Bass fishing is really picking up along with Crappie Fishing. Both Smallmouth and Largemouth are being caught throughout the entire lake. Focus on deeper water for the Smallies and sloughs for the Largemouth. Smallmouth are hitting deep diving rattlin rapala’s and other deep diving crankbaits.
Local Creeks are blown out and full of Skidders, Dump Trucks, Bull Dozers, Ash, Wheel Bearing Grease, and Deisel. Good Luck
Local Fishing: It is time to start fishing some of the other creeks that are open. Focus on Pack River and Grouse Creek right now. The water jumped up over the weekend so more fish should be moving into these systems. Beads and Glo Bugs are still a fly fishermens best bet. The Clark Fork is still fishing very well. Beads are working, unless you want to get down and dirty w/eggs, more fish are also being caught on swung flies. Black/Purple is out producing all others right now….Biggest to hand this season on fly is around 19lbs (36.5″) a real toad.
Lake Pend Oreille kicked my ass yesterday….went searching for Bass and Crappie and it seemed like everyone and the sister was out enjoying the warm weather. Bass were tough, however, the Crappie fishing wasn’t bad. 2-weight fly rods with small clousers can be a kick in the pants right now. Enough about the little fish.. Go out and catch a Big Kam!

Local Fishing: The local creeks are beginning to swell a little bit making fishing even better. Fish are beginning to spread out throughout the lower systems. Fly fishermen are doing well on beads/glo bugs as well as large heavily weighted streamers. As for gear fishermen, just about anything works.
Lake Pend Oreille is beginning to warm up. The K&K derby is on right now, so good luck competing w/all the fishermen. Bass fishing is beginning to pick up in the sloughs and the water temps are around 50-55 degrees in the sloughs and 40-42 ot on the main lake. Target Largemouth with slow presentations either Yamamto Senko’s or Zoom Black Lizards are the best bet right now for largies.
