Steelhead

Filed under: The Fishing Report — fishingreporter @ 9:50 am

Fishing has been improving on the Clearwater River for Steelhead.  Huge numbers are coming over the Dams on the lower Columbia.  It should make for a great year all over Washington and Idaho.

The Kootenai River has been fishing stellar with great hopper action throughout most of the day.  Pounding the banks all along the river will bring up some big trout.

Lake Pend Oreille has cooled off a little bit with the weather that we have been having.  Lake Trout are being caught near the mouth of Bottle Bay on some Dodger/Fly action.  The fish are not big, but they are around.

Good luck out there!

Fishing around here has been slow.  Lake Pend Oreille has really slooooooow.  Bass fishing has tapered off.  Fish are moving to deeper water.  Large Lake Trout are nearly non-existent,  rainbows?  what rainbows?  The dead sea is once again…the dead sea.

Unless you like catching Sqawfish (Pike Minnow)  these things are everywhere and they are stuffed with Kokanee.  I cut one open yesterday and it has 27 baby kokanee in it’s belly…good thing, according to studies, they don’t eat kokanne.

On a good notice the Kootenai is on fire!  Hopper fishing has been outstanding, especially on the lower stretches.  The Clearwater is putting out steelhead everyday!  Mostly smaller “a-runs” but soon the big dogs will be in.  Smaller flies on floating or intermediate tips have been producing.

Good luck out there.  I am headed to SouthWest Washington….(More steelhead over there right now)
